Clwyd West MS Darren Millar, who has been leading a campaign to save dental services in Colwyn Bay, following Bupa Dental Care’s decision to close in the town, has welcomed news that Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board have given the green light for a new provider to take over the practice.
It was feared that 12,000 people would be without a dentist when the Bupa Dental Care UK practice in Colwyn Bay closes next year, as other NHS dentists in the area are full to capacity and unable to take them on.
Following the announcement of the closure Darren has been raising concerns with Welsh Ministers, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Bupa, and working hard to ensure that they find a solution to ensure continuity of dental services in Colwyn Bay.
He was therefore delighted to be told today that the health board have given the go ahead for the new provider to take over.
Darren said;
“This is excellent news for the people of Colwyn Bay and I am grateful to Bupa and the Health Board for their efforts to ensure continuity of NHS services to patients and to safeguard the jobs of those working at the practice.
“However, I must stress that nothing is set in stone yet, with legal processes still needing to be completed in the weeks ahead. There is always a risk, no matter how small, that the transfer to the new provider may not proceed, but I am praying that this won’t be the case and that the transfer will be completed in the not too distant future.
“In the meantime, I thank everyone who has signed my petition and encourage those who haven’t to do so at: https://www.darrenmillar.wales/save-our-dental-services-colwyn-bay,”
