Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is calling on the Welsh Government and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to come up with a solution for the thousands of patients affected by the closure of a dental practice in Colwyn Bay.

Bupa Dental announced last week that it would be closing practices in Colwyn Bay and Caernarfon, leaving approximately 20,000 patients across both sites without access to a dentist.

Since that time, Darren has been contacted by patients concerned about how they will access dental care following the closure.

He said:

“Access to dental care in North Wales is already problematic, so the closure of this practice, which serves such a large number of patients, is a huge blow to the area.

“It seems unlikely that other local practices will be able to absorb all the patients from Bupa Dental’s Princes Road practice and therefore the health board need to be considering all options so that these patients are able to access the dental services that they need, and I will be pressing them to do this. I will also be pressing the Welsh Government to intervene.

“The practice will be open until February, but those affected need assurance now that they will be accommodated when the time comes.”
