During First Minister’s Questions in the Welsh Parliament today, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS, questioned the Welsh Labour Government’s response to child sexual exploitation by grooming gangs in Wales, and called for a Wales-wide inquiry.
He called upon the Welsh Labour Government to ensure that justice will be served against the perpetrators, and asked what communications Ministers had taken place with the police, local authority social service departments, and other stakeholders, to ensure this happens.
Given clear evidence that girls in Wales have been exploited by grooming gangs, the Welsh Conservative Leader called for the First Minister to commission a Wales-wide inquiry.
Speaking after the exchange, Welsh Conservative Leader, Darren Millar MS, said:
“It’s clear that the Welsh Labour Government does not have a grip of the situation, despite there being clear evidence that child sexual exploitation by gangs has happened here in Wales.
“Only a Wales-wide inquiry will be able to ensure that there is sufficient attention and focus being given to this issue, and that our children can be protected from predatory behaviour.”
Darren Millar MS, added:
“People in Wales deserve to know if there is another Rochdale or Rotherham on our doorsteps.”
