Commenting on his exchange with the Labour Counsel General in the Senedd today, Welsh Conservative Shadow Constitution Minister, Darren Millar MS said:
“We know that ‘Senedd Reform’ is the product of a backroom dodgy deal between Labour and Plaid, but the public has no appetite for more politicians, particularly given its £100 million price tag. That money would be better spent on our Welsh NHS.
“The public certainly do not want to see prisoners get the vote and I asked whether or not the Labour Counsel General was planning on expanding the franchise in that way, as they attempted to in 2021.
“The Labour Minister once again defended prisoner voting by stating that it happens abroad. We know that prisoners with sentences of up to 4 years include those who have committed heinous crimes and that expanding the franchise to them would be a moral outrage.”
