Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is advising HSBC customers who use the Colwyn Bay branch “to vote with their feet and switch to other banking providers”, after the bank confirmed in a meeting with him this week that they will definitely be closing it next year.
Last week Darren slammed HSBC’s decision to close 114 branches in 2023, including the Colwyn Bay branch, and called for an urgent meeting with officials to discuss the Colwyn Bay closure.
On Thursday he met Dyfrig Roberts Local Director North Wales of HSBC.
Following the meeting, Darren said:
“I shared my anger and frustration that the bank was closing a branch serving the largest population centre on the North Wales coast.
“I was appalled that there had been no consultation with staff prior to the announcement and that the decision has been presented as a fait accompli.
“Loyal customers and staff deserve better from HSBC and to announce the closures in the run up to Christmas is particularly insensitive.
“In response, Mr Roberts advised that the bank won't be making any staff redundant and that it will help customers to make the transition and ensure that they can access the banking services they need.
“My advice to customers is that those who can should vote with their feet and switch to other banking providers.”
