Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has applauded ambulance staff in Colwyn Bay for their “heroic” efforts in the face of current pressures in the NHS following a visit last week.
On Friday, Darren visited Colwyn Bay Ambulance Station to meet with staff and managers and to thank them for their hard work.
He also went out with on-call paramedics in the Colwyn Bay area.
Speaking afterwards, he said:
“We are very fortunate in North Wales to have such dedicated and experienced ambulance service staff and it was great to be given the opportunity to meet some of them last week and pass on my gratitude for all that they do.
“They are an incredibly skilled workforce, but sadly due to pressures in our hospitals, which result in patient handover delays, ambulance target times are not always being met, meaning that their hard work, commitment and compassion is often overlooked.
“They faced significant challenges throughout the pandemic and continue to face difficulties on a daily basis.”
Darren added:
“Going out on-call with the paramedics in the Colwyn Bay area gave me a real insight into the diverse skills our paramedics need to ensure that the urgent medical care required by the patients is with them as quickly as possible.
“Their extensive knowledge is commendable and is saving lives every day. I wholeheartedly thank them, and all other staff in the ambulance service, for their heroic efforts.”
