Clwyd West MS Darren Millar celebrated the benefits and success of school milk programs with pupils at a Kinmel Bay School this week.
During a visit to Ysgol Y Foryd on Monday, Darren spent time with Year 2 pupils to celebrate World School Milk Day 2022, which will take place on Thursday (September 28th).
Darren said:
“Milk is excellent as a mid-morning drink. It provides a nutritional boost and keeps children hydrated between breakfast and lunch, helping them to concentrate and learn.
“With World School Milk Day 2022 taking place this Thursday, it was great to spend time with the youngsters at Ysgol y Foryd to talk about the benefits of milk and to demonstrate to the school my commitment to ensuring that schoolchildren in Clwyd West continue to access healthy, nutritious milk whilst at school.
“Encouraging children to drink milk regularly helps them to form a healthy habit when they are young and leads to them making healthier choices throughout their lives. School and nursery milk is a source of safe, healthy nutrition, regardless of their household income.
“It’s vital that we make sure all local children are able to access healthy, nutritious milk when at school.”
Milk helps fuel children’s potential by:
- Providing an energy boost at mid-morning break, refuelling the body until lunch.
- Hydrating children to aid their concentration and attention in class.
- Providing a unique powerhouse of nutrients essential for strong healthy teeth and bones.
GP and Medical Broadcaster, Dr Hilary Jones, who is the spokesperson for the School and Nursery Milk Alliance, said:
“School milk sets children up not just for the day but for life. It contains numerous vital vitamins and essential fats and protein that children need to help them grow and be ready to learn. School milk is one of the best hydrating drinks for refuelling and supports their brain functions – including concentration, memory and creativity, so they’re ready to learn again in the classroom.”
