Darren Millar MS for Clwyd West and Sam Rowland North Wales MS have congratulated a young footballer for being selected for the full Welsh Under 14 squad.
Elliott Bullock from Ysgol Eirias in Colwyn Bay was one of three boys, who play in the Under 14 squad in the recently formed Conwy Schools Football Programme, who tried out for the national team.
Darren said:
“Well done to Elliott. In less than 12 months we have seen the success of the programme and I am sure we will be seeing more young footballers following in his footsteps.
“Volunteer coaches worked with Conwy County Borough’s Leisure Department to originally get the project off the ground and there is no doubt it has been a resounding success.”
Sam said:
“I am absolutely delighted to hear that Elliott has been successful at the recent trials.
“None of this would have been possible without the programme and it is great to see aspiring young footballers being given the chance to perform on the national stage.
“It is something I have wanted to see in the county for a good while and fully supported a local group of football coaches who campaigned for the move. It was long overdue and already it is showing its merit.
“Elliott is one of only 16 players across the whole of Wales who has been selected for the squad. What a fantastic opportunity to represent his country and I wish him every success for the future.”
Elliott fought off competition from the best players across Wales which included those at professional clubs of both England and Wales, such as, Cardiff City, Swansea City, Crewe Alexandra, Everton, Manchester United, and Wrexham to name a few.
He will now be training in preparation for a fixture vs the English School Boys u14’s representation squad, thus earning himself a Welsh Cap.
The Conwy Schools Football Programme was formed in November last year with players being drawn from schools all over the borough to play against other counties.
Coach, Harrison York, chairman of Conwy SFA said:
“Elliott has been an outstanding performer within the u14’s squad this season. He has shown fantastic commitment and dedication to the programme, and we believe this is just rewards for his personal dedication which comes alongside his 100% attendance record.
“We will continue to work hard to ensure that there are many more individuals in the future of Conwy SFA who step up to get opportunities on these higher platforms.”
