Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed news that Conwy County Borough Council has produced a plan to replace the popular kiosks on Rhos Promenade.
As part of plans to upgrade the promenade, the Council had originally proposed that the kiosks would be removed with no clear plan for their replacement. This resulted in a campaign being launched to save the kiosks, which Darren backed.
The local authority’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation has now confirmed that a business case had been submitted to enable the construction of new kiosks in the next financial year.
It’s now up to the Council’s Capital Selection Panel on the 6th December to sign off the proposal.
Darren said:
“I was delighted to hear that the Council has listened to local views and revised their plans and are now looking to replace these important community assets that are popular with locals and visitors alike.
“While the battle isn't quite over as funding still needs to be allocated for the new kiosks, this is certainly a huge leap in the right direction.”
He added:
“The petition which was launched in direct response to the original plans to remove the kiosks, which made no reference to them being replaced, showed the strength of feeling against this move.
“The kiosks have been an integral part of Rhos on Sea for many years and are well used by both locals and holidaymakers.
“The original plans gave no consideration to the owners of these kiosks, whose have faced months of worry over the future of their livelihoods.”
Rhos Councillor James Lusted added:
“I hope the Council’s Capital Selection Panel approve the capital business case put forward on December 6th and that further funding can be found so that Rhos can have kiosks that can be enjoyed by generations to come.”
