With Covid-19 cases at an all time low in Wales, Clwyd West Welsh Conservative candidate for the Senedd elections, Darren Millar, is calling for restrictions on the number of people who can attend a funeral to be lifted.
Darren has been contacted by a number of bereaved families who are upset that they have not been able to give their loved ones the send off they deserved because of the rules in place.
With so many people now vaccinated and cases greatly reduced, Darren is calling for these restrictions on funerals to be eased.
He said:
“It is totally heart-breaking that so many people have been unable to give their loved ones a proper send off during the pandemic.
“Whilst people could understand the need for such restrictions when cases were high, they are questioning why they are still in place now that the situation is so greatly improved.
“Attending a funeral is part of the grieving process, yet so many people have been denied the opportunity to say goodbye properly throughout the pandemic. With the number of cases so massively reduced, there is no reason why this suffering should continue.
“I am therefore urging the First Minister to have some compassion and look at easing restrictions on funerals as soon as possible so more people can attend funerals.”
