Children in their final year at a Colwyn Bay Primary School went online last week to share their personal experiences of the coronavirus pandemic with Clwyd West MS Darren Millar.
Darren made a virtual visit to Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn to meet with Year 6 pupils and to hear more about how they have all coped over the past 12 months.
He was told that the children had completed an exercise writing letters to themselves explaining what had happened over the last year and imagining that they had received them before the pandemic started.
Darren said:
“It was moving to listen to the pupils as they described birthdays during lockdown, not being able to go on trips out or meet up with friends, and to hear about them losing loved ones, but I was also inspired by their incredible resilience and ability to cope. One even managed to have a fun holiday during the relaxation of restrictions in the summer.
“It was lovely to see all the children back in the classroom after months of them working from home and to have the opportunity to engage with them.
“It has been an extremely challenging year for all of our children, but hopefully more normal times are on the horizon for them.
“ I thank all the staff at the school for all their efforts over the past 12 months, ensuring that their pupils continued to receive a good standard of education away from the classroom, whilst also focusing on their well-being.
“Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn is a lovely school and whilst I enjoyed my virtual visit, I can’t wait to return to the school for an in person visit as soon as restrictions allow.”
