Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed today’s news that improved rail links between North Wales and England are on the initial Union Connectivity Review priority list to boost transport across the UK.
In June, Sir Peter Hendy CBE was tasked by the Prime Minister with exploring ways in which transport can better connect the four nations of the UK.
Today his interim report has been published, and Darren, who has been calling for improved rail connections between North Wales and England for years, is thrilled that the list of priorities includes "Improved rail connectivity between the North coast of Wales and England".
He said:
“It is absolutely fantastic that the needs of North Wales have been recognised in this review.
“Improved connections between the North Wales coast and England would provide the local economy of North Wales with a much needed boost, particularly required given the circumstances of the past 12 months. It would also benefit the environment hugely by shifting passengers from road to rail.
“I have long been calling for such improvements and therefore wish to thank Sir Hendy for listening to the representations made by politicians and stakeholders in North Wales. I look forward to these plans coming to fruition and witnessing the benefits to our local area.”
