Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed this afternoon’s announcement by the Welsh Government that teacher assessed grades will now be awarded for all A and AS Levels and GCSEs this year
Students, parents, head teachers and teachers throughout Wales have been up in arms after 42% of this year’s A level results were downgraded.
Darren , along with his Welsh Conservative colleagues, has been calling for teacher assessed grades to be awarded and he is therefore delighted by today’s u-turn.
He said:
“This is absolutely fantastic news and I am sure there will be many happy households across Wales this afternoon.
“However, it is just such a great shame that the Minister took so long to make this decision and that A level students have had to endure days of misery and uncertainty. Instead of last Thursday being a day of celebration, it was a day of panic and stress for many and it all could have been avoided.
“The whole debacle raises serious concerns about whether Qualifications Wales is fit for purpose.
“My congratulations go to all those A Level and AS Level students who were downgraded last week, who now have the results they need and deserve. I wish them all the very best in pursuing their future plans and hope they enjoy the celebrations.”
