Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is encouraging young people in Conwy and Denbighshire who want to make a difference to stand in this year’s Welsh Youth Parliament elections.
The Welsh Youth Parliament is made up of 60 Members (WYPM) aged 11-18 from across Wales who represent the voices of young people in Wales on issues that are important to them.
Each constituency is represented and Darren is keen to ensure that young people in Clwyd West take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.
He said:
“The elections will take place in November 2021 and I am really keen for Clwyd West to have some excellent candidates standing.
“As a Welsh Youth Parliament Member, you’ll develop skills that will benefit you for life.
“You’ll be raising awareness and sharing information about the work of the Welsh Youth Parliament, all while developing your leadership, communication and research skills at the same time.
“There’ll be opportunities to boost your confidence in public speaking, gain experience of team working and improve your interpersonal skills.
“You’ll meet young people from across Wales and hear about the issues important to them. The topics discussed aren't politics - it's everyday life. The environment, mental health, your schools, your health services...everything that matters.
“You’ll have the opportunity to meet key decision makers, and you could influence the way Members of Senedd see and understand issues facing young people.
“Being a member is also an opportunity to make new friends and share experiences with a diverse group of young people, and perhaps one of the most exciting opportunities, is the chance to discuss important issues in the Senedd’s debating chamber.”
Darren added:
“With everything going on in the world, youth voices need to be heard now more than ever. Therefore is you think you or someone you know is up for the job, I urge you to apply.”
