Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has hit out at the Welsh Government for failing to make returning children to the classroom a priority.
Darren is disappointed that many children in Wales will not return to school until after the Easter break, despite non-essential shops and hairdressers opening several weeks before then.
In England all children, regardless of age, will be back in school by March 8th.
Darren has received emails from parents concerned that their children will be at home, and missing out on further in person education, for several weeks longer.
He said:
“The First Minister has repeatedly said that getting young people back into school is the Welsh Government’s number one priority yet he indicated last week that non-essential shops, barbers and hairdressers could be open by 15 March while most secondary school pupils won’t return until after Easter.
“A whole generation is losing out and it’s damaging their education, social development and mental health as well as their future prospects in life.
“The Welsh Government needs to reconsider its decision on this and get all children back to school as soon as possible.”
