Clwyd West Welsh Conservative candidate for the Senedd elections, Darren Millar, welcomed the Secretary of State for Wales, Simon Hart MP, to Towyn and Kinmel Bay yesterday to highlight issues affecting the area.
During the visit, the Secretary of State for Wales, inspected the sea defences and took a look at the unadopted roads on the Sandy Cove Estate.
He also promoted the UK Government's Levelling Up Fund.
Darren said:
“It was great to welcome the Secretary of State for Wales to Towyn and Kinmel Bay on a glorious Monday afternoon and to highlight two of the major issues of concern in the area.
“For years I have been calling for improved flood defences and also for improvements to the roads on Sandy Cove.
“Having experienced devastating floods in Towyn back in 1990, I am determined to ensure that communities at risk across Clwyd West get the protection they need and have the opportunity to thrive.
“The £4.8 billion Levelling Up Fund will invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life across the UK.
“I am hopeful that the Fund can be used to enhance the flood defence upgrade already planned for Towyn and Kinmel Bay so that the promenade can be improved and that the Sandy Cove Estate might be able to benefit via a contribution to bring the roads and drains up to an adoptable standard.“
The Secretary of State for Wales said:
“It was fantastic to join Darren in Clwyd West on this beautiful stretch of the North Wales Coast to visit the defences and to discuss how our Levelling Up Fund will benefit areas like this and help ensure they fulfill their potential.”
