Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is urging eligible people to beat flu this winter by getting the jab.
Public health experts have warned that they are expecting a more challenging flu season after lower levels of infection over the past two years due to Covid lockdowns.
Darren got his own flu jab this week and is encouraging people at risk to get protected against the potentially life-threatening virus.
Flu is a serious respiratory illness affecting the lungs and airways. It can lead to serious conditions like bronchitis and pneumonia, which can require hospital treatment.
Darren said:
“Flu can be a very serious illness for certain groups of people.
“Annual flu vaccination is the best protection against catching or spreading this potentially life-threatening infection.
“There are outbreaks of flu most winters, especially in hospitals and care homes. In a normal winter, thousands of people will die from flu-related illnesses in the UK. With Covid still lingering, this winter we may see this virus and flu both circulating at the same time, so it’s very important to get protected.
“Having a flu vaccine every year is one of the best ways to protect against flu.
“Flu vaccines are quick and very safe, and could prevent weeks of serious illness.
“I therefore urge all those in Conwy and Denbighshire who are eligible for the free flu vaccine to make arrangements to get it done as soon as possible.”
