Clwyd West MS Darren Millar and Vale of Clwyd MS Gareth Davies have praised a Rhyl-based charity which provides hands on help to expectant mums and mums with pre-school aged children after visiting their new premises this week.
Blossom & Bloom was started in November 2020 by founders Vicky Welsman-Millard and husband Lee, welcoming mums and babies who were experiencing homelessness and supporting them with emergency accommodation, kindness and care.
The service developed rapidly due to demand and in 2022 they offered outreach support to 20 mums and babies who found themselves in need of well-being support, advice or guidance.
In April this year they moved from Costigans Coffee Shop in the town to open their own Well-being Hub, which is situated inside the White Rose Centre, from where they provide daily accessible support and socialisation for both mums and babies in a safe and friendly environment.
Commenting following his visit to the Well-being Hub, Darren said:
“It was a pleasure to visit Vicky and her team to learn more about what the charity has achieved since its establishment just three years ago.
“Since October 2021 they have been providing wellbeing-related daily drop-in and support services from Costigans Coffee Shop and this new dedicated space in the White Rose Centre is enabling them to continue providing this vital and much-needed support to expectant mums and mums with pre-school age children in a safe and friendly environment.
“It is also a place for mums to donate, swap and offer an affordable donation for baby essential items from its ‘Swap Shop’.
“Vicky and all the dedicated volunteers deserve huge praise for the great work they are carrying out in Rhyl.”
Gareth said:
“It was a pleasure to meet the lovely team at Blossom and Bloom with Darren recently at the White Rose Centre in Rhyl, and it was a fantastic opportunity to see and learn more about the fabulous work they do supporting mums of pre-school age children, and expectant mums with many aspects of their health and wellbeing, including emotional support, help with housing, access to vital resources for babies and much more.
“I’d like to thank Vicky and all of the fantastic team at Blossom and Bloom for their work and dedication in supporting some of the most vulnerable women and children in the Rhyl area and I wish them all the success going forward.”
Vicky said:
“I would like to thank both Darren and Gareth for taking the time to visit us, it was lovely to meet them both in person and to thank them for their work helping one of our mums recently too, I know she really appreciates it.
“Lots of families are struggling at the moment and knowing our local councillors and Senedd Members are supporting our families with what matters to them is so important during challenging times. “
Blossom and Bloom Well-being Hub is currently open from 10am until 2pm on weekdays, offering socialisation, breakfast/lunches and the ‘Swap Shop’ service.
