Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has sworn an oath of allegiance to King Charles III in the Welsh Parliament.
The Oath of Allegiance is a promise to be loyal to the British monarch, and his or her heirs and successors, sworn by certain public servants in the United Kingdom, and also by newly naturalised subjects in citizenship ceremonies.
MSs take the oath by holding the sacred text in their uplifted hand and saying the words of the oath:
‘I swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles, his heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God’.
Darren took the oath in the Senedd chamber as business resumed after the period of national mourning.
Commenting afterwards, he said;
“It was a privilege to bear my true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles as we embark on a new chapter in all our lives.
“His Majesty was an excellent ambassador for Wales over his more than 50 years as Prince of Wales, and I have every faith that he will be an exceptional King.”
