Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has praised a unique, eco-friendly family business which is going from strength to strength, after paying them a visit last week.
Dust Shack, set up by husband and wife team Scott and Bobbi Barnwell, is based in Kinmel Bay and designs and produces unique furniture for homes and businesses across the UK.
Darren visited the couple at their business premises on the Tir Llwyd Business Estate to find out more about the goods they produce and the service they provide.
Speaking afterwards, he said:
“It is always good to see new, small businesses opening in the area and I am extremely pleased that Scott and Bobbi chose to open Dust Shack in Kinmel Bay.
“At a time of much uncertainty, at the height of the pandemic, they decided to realise their dream and opened their impressive studio and workshop, where they design and produce a wide array of bespoke and elegant furniture, and other products for the home and garden.
“During the visit we talked about the challenges they faced setting up their new business during the height of the pandemic, their move to North Wales and saw some of their creations and the equipment in their workshop. I was shown a frame for an arcade machine which they had created, some coffee tables and door handles. They also told me about the Welsh wood they have used and how they’re hoping to source more locally.
“I was extremely impressed with everything they have achieved in the relatively short time they have been operating. Launching a small business in a unstable climate was a brave move, so I am pleased it has paid off for them and I wish them every success going forward.”
Scott said:
“The inspiration that led us to designing furniture came from a desire to unlock the unique and natural beauty of plywood, married with the use of modern and traditional woodworking practices. Bringing together our skills and experience of digital engineering, and art and design, we started our journey with the Timeless furniture collection and it has all expanded from there.”
Bobbi added:
“Our commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly furniture is an integral part of our business ethos. We strongly believe in sustainable manufacturing and that the furniture we design should not come at a cost to the environment. With the use of modern woodworking techniques, we are able to minimise waste during production of our furniture. We use only responsibly sourced materials such as PEFC and FSC® certified Baltic Birch plywood, and non-toxic glues and finishes.”
Dust Shack is based at Units 13-15 Tir Llwyd Industrial Estate, St Asaph Avenue, Kinmel Bay.
