Year 6 pupils at a Denbighshire school, who recently staged a protest about climate change and environmental issues, met with Clwyd West MS Darren Millar last week to discuss their concerns about climate change and its consequences.
Darren visited Ysgol Bro Cinmeirch in Llanrhaeadr near Denbigh on Friday, after receiving a letter from Year 6 pupil Llion Griffiths informing him of their May protest and inviting him to the school so they could put forward their views.
Darren was impressed by the pupils’ knowledge on the subject, and their passion for taking action to tackle climate change.
He said:
“It is extremely encouraging that the children are taking such a keen interest in one of the most important challenges that we find ourselves facing today. Climate change is a global emergency which requires a global response. We all have our part to play and it was good that the children, despite their young age, had a firm understanding of the individual action that is required.
“We had a wide ranging discussion and I was very impressed with how all the children presented themselves. They were very well informed and asked questions on electric cars, renewable energy, rising sea levels and other issues. They are keen to ensure that the Welsh Government and the Senedd takes action to protect the planet.
“I thank Llion for inviting me to discuss this important issue and the headteacher and all teaching staff at the school for ensuring they are well educated about climate change.”
