Clwyd West MS Darren Millar, who has made repeated calls for face coverings in places of worship to be scrapped, is delighted that the Welsh Government has announced an end to the requirements.
People visiting churches and other places of worship will no longer be required to wear a face mask from 28th February, it has been announced today.
Only a few days ago, in a meeting of the Welsh Parliament, Darren once again put pressure on Ministers to review the ruling, highlighting the discrepancies relating to covid restrictions in Wales, with masks having not been required in crowded pubs and other hospitality venues for some time.
Welcoming today’s news, Darren said:
“I am absolutely delighted that Ministers have at last seen sense over this.
“I have said time and time again in the Senedd that the ruling was grossly unfair, given that facemasks have not been required in hospitality venues, which are often crowded, for some time.
“It has been extremely restrictive singing hymns with a face covering throughout the pandemic and I have received numerous complaints from constituents, who, like me, when restrictions were eased at other venues, couldn’t understand why they were being discriminated against.
“It will be a real pleasure to attend church and sing without the constraints of a face mask.”
