Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has joined forces with a group of residents in Abergele who are calling for cables for full fibre broadband in their neighbourhood to be buried underground.
Openreach plans to roll full fibre broadband to homes and businesses across Wales, but residents of one estate in Abergele are unhappy that they are proposing to run cables for the project overhead.
Residents living on the estate, which comprises all of the streets off Heol Awel and part of Sea Road, recently met with Darren to air their concerns and to present him with a petition against the plans.
Darren said:
“Telecom cables on the estate are currently underground and residents believe that new cables should also be buried.
“I have made representations to Openreach on behalf of local residents and as a result they have put their proposals on hold pending further engagement with the community, which I am very pleased about.
“I agree completely with the residents that Openreach should bury infrastructure in areas where it is already underground.
“We all want and need faster and more reliable broadband, but not to the detriment of the local landscape.”
